Getting a Group to Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral
Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral is a Grade II listed building, and its opening pattern matters for anyone organising a group visit. It opens Tuesday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm, Sunday from 9:00am until the end of evening Mass, and Saturday on the same basis. Monday is closed, so that day is worth ruling out early when planning coach hire for Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral.
Why the Schedule Shapes the Booking
Because the building closes on Mondays and has extended but variable hours around Mass on weekends, group organisers need to fix arrival and departure times before confirming a vehicle. Minibus hire suits smaller parish groups or school parties, while a full coach makes more sense for larger societies or heritage tour groups travelling from further afield.
Working With Licensed Operators
BusRoute connects customers with licensed operators who hold the vehicles and manage the drivers. There's no fleet to browse here, only a network of operators covering the routes into Cardiff and out again, each with their own availability and vehicle types suited to the group size involved.
Same Day Trips Are Realistic
Journey data from six origin cities shows every route can lawfully complete as a same day return, with no mandatory breaks required one way from any of the six. That gives organisers real flexibility. A group from Bristol faces just over an hour each way, while Plymouth sits at around three hours twenty minutes, still well within a single day's travel.
Planning Around the Closure
Since Monday closure is fixed, any group booking should build in a buffer day either side if the visit is part of a wider regional itinerary. Operators arranging coach hire will need the exact visit date locked in before quoting, particularly for weekend slots tied to Mass timings.
Journey Times to Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral
Breaks required follow GB drivers hours rules, and all six routes shown allow a lawful same day return.
A Little Context
Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral is a Grade II listed building with a clear weekly pattern: closed Monday, open Tuesday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm, and open weekends from 9:00am until the end of evening Mass. Groups travelling from Bristol, Birmingham, Exeter, Southampton, Leicester or Plymouth can all complete a same day return by coach, with no mandatory breaks required one way on any of these six routes according to the journey data.

About BusRoute
BusRoute is a UK coach and minibus booking platform. We do not own vehicles. We connect groups with licensed operators who do, which means you are matched to the operator best placed to run your journey rather than to whoever happens to own the nearest coach.
Every operator we work with holds a valid PSV operator licence and full passenger insurance. Drivers on school and youth bookings are DBS checked as standard.

“We booked Bus Route for our group of 35 passengers travelling from London to Ipswich return trio and the experience was excellent from start to finish. On our way to the venue, the road was unexpectedly closed when we were only about 15 minutes away. Our driver remained calm, patient, and professional throughout, finding an alternative route without any stress or delay on our part. We really appreciated how composed and experienced he was in handling the situation. The coach was clean, comfortable, and the air conditioning worked perfectly, which made a huge difference as we were travelling during an extremely hot day. Everyone in our group was able to relax and enjoy the journey.Overall, we had a fantastic experience on both the outbound and return trips. The service was reliable, comfortable, and well-organised. I would highly recommend Bus Route to anyone looking for coach transport for a large group. Thank you for helping make our trip so enjoyable!”
