Getting Your Group to Skara Brae
Getting a Group to Skara Brae
Skara Brae sits at postcode KW16 3LR, one of the most significant Neolithic settlements in Europe, opened to visitors in 1925. The site is managed by Historic Environment Scotland, which sets out current visiting arrangements on its official website. For schools, societies and tour groups, coach hire and minibus hire to Skara Brae is the most practical way to bring a full party to a remote coastal site without relying on multiple private cars.
Why Group Transport Makes Sense Here
Skara Brae's location on Orkney means most visitors are already travelling as part of a wider island itinerary, often combined with other historic sites. Arriving as one group by coach or minibus keeps everyone together for timed entry, guided commentary or simply making the most of a tight day schedule. It also removes the stress of coordinating separate arrivals at a site with limited nearby parking.
Booking Through BusRoute
BusRoute connects group organisers with licensed coach and minibus operators who cover Orkney and the wider region. Rather than owning vehicles ourselves, we match your group size and travel plans with an appropriate operator, whether that is a small minibus for a local society outing or a full coach for a school trip. Operators handle the practicalities of driving hours, vehicle suitability and route planning, so your focus stays on the visit itself.
Planning Your Visit
Because Historic Environment Scotland manages access and opening arrangements, it is worth checking their official site before finalising numbers and timings. Once you know your group size and preferred date, we can help source suitable transport so arrival at Skara Brae is straightforward, whether you are coming from elsewhere on Orkney or arriving via ferry as part of a longer journey.

“We booked Bus Route for our group of 35 passengers travelling from London to Ipswich return trio and the experience was excellent from start to finish. On our way to the venue, the road was unexpectedly closed when we were only about 15 minutes away. Our driver remained calm, patient, and professional throughout, finding an alternative route without any stress or delay on our part. We really appreciated how composed and experienced he was in handling the situation. The coach was clean, comfortable, and the air conditioning worked perfectly, which made a huge difference as we were travelling during an extremely hot day. Everyone in our group was able to relax and enjoy the journey.Overall, we had a fantastic experience on both the outbound and return trips. The service was reliable, comfortable, and well-organised. I would highly recommend Bus Route to anyone looking for coach transport for a large group. Thank you for helping make our trip so enjoyable!”
